41 rows · Jacques Ibert enjoyed a major sensation when his Escales was premiered in As a sumptuous, brilliantly orchestrated work depicting sunny climes in perfect postcard music, Ibert's suite follows in the steps of such predecessors as Saint-Saëns' Suite algérienne (), Chabrier's España (), Debussy's Ibéria (), and Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole ().

Ibert's Escales "Ports of call" is most enjoyable and receives a fantastic performance which is effervescent and full of Eastern promise - echoes of Rimsky's Scheherazade - the BSO sounds absolutely every inch the virtuoso orchestra and provides a thrilling performance. The disc does what it says on the tin "Hi-Fi Spectacular!"/5(99).
